Mayor's Report for August 6, 2024

July 2nd

I presided over the regular meeting of Council

July 3rd

I attended a South East Transition Team (BOH) (SETT) Meeting in Brockville.

I attended the HPEPH Board office to sign documents.

July 8th

I attended the office to respond to enquiries.

July 9th

The Personnel Committee had an exit interview with the CAO/Clerk as a result of her resignation.

We met with senior managers to discuss the CAO/Clerk vacancy and plans for the transition until the position is filled.

July 10th

I presided over a special closed meeting of Council to receive advice on delegation of authority and updates on outstanding legal matters.

From 4:00 – 5:00, I participated in a virtual meeting with the Ministry of Health to discuss the business plan for the Public Health merger project.

July 12th

I met with the Deputy Clerk to discuss the Agenda for the Council Meeting on July 16th.

July 15th

I met with Councillor Lakatos.

That afternoon, I was interviewed by CBC Radio regarding our Doctor Recruitment program and discussed the success of the program in attracting Doctors since the inception of the initiative.  We met at the Tourism Information Centre.  The film crew were immediately impressed with the park, the artifacts and history of the area.  We walked the path to the medical centre and I was able to explain about the industrial history in Marmora.  They had also filmed the new doctor in Centre Hastings, met with the recruitment personnel in Belleville and Quinte West.  The program will be aired mid-August.  I also took them to see the mine site.

July 16th

I presided over a special regular meeting of Council regarding approval of funds for the emergency water main repair.

The water main repair is complete and the beach is open to the public. 

July 19th

I participated in a virtual meeting with AMO staff regarding the upcoming AMO Conference.  I have been selected to participate in a panel discussion regarding the ongoing Board of Health merger.

July 20th

I attended the Crowe Lake Waterway Association AGM.  They discussed the continuing problem of speeding on the river.  That afternoon, tragically, there was a fatality.

There was discussion and plans for the boat parade and fireworks.

I understand the boat parade was the best ever and the fireworks were spectacular.  On behalf of Council, I want to extend appreciation and thanks to the Association and Crowe Lake residents for their community spirit.

That afternoon, I attended the Broadbent’s Home Hardware anniversary celebration.

July 24th

I met with management staff to provide an update regarding the recruitment process to fill the vacancy.

I drove to Brockville for the scheduled SETT merger meeting the next day.

At 4:30 p.m., I presided over a virtual, special closed meeting of Council to amend the appointment bylaw to appoint Kristen McConnell as acting Clerk and Nancy Sinclair as Municipal Treasurer.

For the public’s information, to be in compliance with the Municipal Act, the position of Clerk is a mandatory, statutory position and cannot be vacant.

July 25th

I participated in the SETT merger meeting in Brockville. 

I stopped at the HPEPH Board office on the way home to sign cheques.

July 26th

Warden Mullin requested that I represent him at Belleville General Hospital regarding the public announcement of $15M funding for the four hospitals.  MP Todd Smith, MPP Ric Bresee, Mayor Harrison and Mayor Ferguson were present, along with the President and CEO Stacy Daub.  We were invited to attend their bed scrum which they conduct three times per day.  It was incredibly interesting to see how they monitor and plan their day.  They not only provide critical health care but they must be extremely organized and able to dispatch staff and resources to provide care where it is needed.

July 29th

I participated in a meeting with AMO representatives and the other panel members to discuss our power point presentations and we were assigned questions to be asked by the moderator.

July 30th

I presided over a special closed meeting of Council to receive presentations regarding consulting services.

August 1st & 2nd

I attended the office to sign bank documents.

August 6th

I presided over the regular planning meeting at 5:30 p.m.
