General Information

Short-term accommodations (Airbnb, Vrbo, cottage rentals, etc.) are not licensed within the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. Even so, guests are expected to abide by all Municipal bylaws while staying in Marmora and Lake, and property owners are ultimately responsible and liable for all activities and occupants at their property at all times.

Other issues, Airbnb: For properties listed on Airbnb, Airbnb provides Neighbourhood Support for problems arising with their rentals, at any time of day or night. You can report a party, noise complaint, or neighbourhood concern here. If there is a disturbance happening nearby, you can request a call, or call the Neighbourhood Support Team at 855-635-7754. For concerns that are not time-sensitive, you can report the issue to the Neighbourhood Support team and they will get back to you via email.

Other issues, Vrbo: For properties listed on Vrbo, Vrbo has a Stay Neighbourly program which provides a way for community members to let them know if they have a concern about a property. If you have a complaint about a Vrbo property, you can submit your concern online.

For Hosts

There are many benefits of short-term accommodations within communities like Marmora and Lake. These are most evident when hosts ensure that they are good neighbours, especially when renting out their properties to guests. Please consider some tips on how to be a good neighbour.
 
Open Communication:

  • Let surrounding homes know that you own a short-term rental and give them a way to reach you in an emergency.  

  • Neighbours can be the best way to get an early warning if something goes wrong on your property. 

Local Rules & Bylaws:

  • Make sure you know Marmora and Lake’s related bylaws (listed above) and understand that you, as the owner, are responsible for your property at all times.

  • Guests are more likely to follow the rules if you make them clear from the start. Their behaviour is your responsibility - make sure they know what is expected of them by you and the community.

Monitor Your Property:

  • Preventing loud parties is an essential part of keeping the community safe and peaceful for your neighbours.  

  • Do not alienate your neighbours, who can be helpful in looking out for your property, by being oblivious to the way your guests behave.

Burn Ban Status

Fireworks and open-air burning are not permitted during a Complete Fire Ban or a Restricted Fire Ban in the Municipality of Marmora and Lake. Marmora’s burn status is always up-to-date on the Municipal homepage, and on the Fire Department page, where more information about restrictions is provided. Guests are responsible for being aware of the burn status during their stay in Marmora and Lake, and for abiding by the applicable rules and regulations.
